Holiday Home Waste Collection
At present, we are facing unprecedented circumstances which have resulted in a vast amount of visitors to Cornwall; more so than ever before. Whilst this is excellent for our county, we are facing a much-increased amount of waste, both recycling and general. The sheer amount of waste we need to collect is increased by the fact that visitors, as well as people already resident in Cornwall, are staying at home more than ever due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
This has resulted in an increased demand on our trucks, which are filling up more quickly and becoming heavier, which has in turn created issues for the companies we pass our waste onto. In particular, the incinerator used for general waste is running over capacity and there is the need to queue for significant periods of time to dispose of this waste. In respect of recycling, the company who we pass this waste onto is also experiencing issues in coping with increased demand.
Due to all of the above, we would like to reassure everyone that we are working extremely hard to try and clear all waste on changeover days. However, there is a risk that we may not be able to meet our usual timings due to the circumstances I have outlined above. If we miss our changeover day timing, we will always do our utmost to be back for an evening collection or the following morning. If your collection day is on a Saturday, it may not be possible for us to arrange your collection until the following Monday morning, due to Sunday opening restrictions. We do have a few collections that we manage in Padstow and surrounding areas on a Sunday, but other areas may have to wait until Monday morning.
Equally we would hope that most properties receive a mid-week bin clearance as well as their normal changeover day, which should hopefully prevent bins from reaching an “overflow” situation.
